One previous owner must have been an avid gardener, although the evidence of this was hidden under years of overgrowth, apart from some magnificent tree specimens. Whilst digging, I stumbled across some bulbs which I couldn't identify. These fabulous dahlias poked their heads up the very next summer. Oil on Canvas. 2009. h76 x w76 cm. cassowary This was painted for 'The Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize 2009'. After seeing one of these prehistoric looking creatures foraging at the side of the road on a trip to Cape York, I had always wanted to paint a cassowary. This was my opportunity to enjoy the riot of colour on this amazing Australian bird. Oil on Canvas. 2009. h91 x w60 cm. |
